Public Health Law §281 says practitioners are mandated to electronically prescribe both controlled and non-controlled substances effective March 27, 2016. However, there are a number of exceptions in which a practitioner may issue an Official New York State prescription (ONYSRx) form, oral prescription or a fax of an ONYSR. WENO has asked NY BNE to clarify the rule for pharmacies to register their pharmacy application as the process to do so only allows them to register the one that does its required state monitoring reporting on ROPES and the DEA allows pharmacies to use more than one qualified pharmacy application for EPCS. BNE as of 11/16/2021 has not clarified this yet.
